Councillors are next week set to decide on whether to grant planning permission for a new Lidl supermarket.

Warwick District Council has already given the green light for Europa House on Heathcote Lane to be demolished to make way for the new shop.

But detailed designs for the food store will go before the planning committee on Wednesday 16 September.

A report from council planning officers has recommended permission be granted.

It said: "Subject to conditions and contributions for highways improvements, officers do not consider that the proposal will give rise to any other planning harm in relation to character impacts, heritage matters, highways safety and parking, flood risk and water environment, biodiversity, residential amenity, climate change and mitigation and minerals and waste."

Eight objections were submitted to the scheme, including one from The Leamington Society.

Concerns about the loss of business space and the impact on traffic were raised.

The application to the council said: "The building's scale and design align with the existing street scene, incorporating modern materials and a simple form to achieve a clean, contemporary aesthetic that complements its surroundings.

"A prominent glazed curtain wall serves as a focal point while allowing views into the store.

"The building's cladding, composed of grey and white aluminium panels, is consistent with the commercial architecture in the area."
