"Concerns for the governance of the council" will be raised at next week's full Warwick District Council meeting following a number of significant changes at the local authority.

Two by-elections are due to be held in September to replace two departing councillors, with a  trio of defections from Labour also announced earlier this summer.

With the council already run by a Green-Labour coalition, the latest changes raise serious questions over its political balance.

As such, leader of the council, Cllr Ian Davison and his remaining cabinet members will next week face questions from the rest of the council on "the stability of the council's operation".

Members will also be able to ask about the future of housing services following the resignation of the portfolio holder for housing Helen Adkins amid rising waiting lists.

Lack of communication over the South Warwickshire Local Plan, the future of the two Kenilworth School sites and the status of gypsy and traveller sites will also be open to scrutiny.

Earlier this summer, Cllr Paul Wightman, Cllr Claire Wightman and Cllr Dan Browne quit Labour to stand as independents claiming that the party's group was "not led in an ethical or inclusive way".

The other resignation - Lara Cron - came as she plans to relocate from the district.

The by-elections in Kenilworth and Leamington Spa will be held in September.

Next week's extraordinary discussions have been prompted by former district leader Cllr Andrew Day and the four other Conservative councillors.
