Council planners have received an application for a new emergency escape at a local church.

An application for the works at Heathcote Parish Church and Community Centre on Cressida Close has been submitted to Warwick District Council.

Plans show the escape staircase would be built to the rear of the building and is needed due to internal changes.

The application said: "Due to church growth, the existing ceiling area over the creche / offices is being strengthened to create a mezzanine area for 46 additional seats."

It added: "The building control office and fire risk assessor have said an external escape stair is required for fire and safety reasons."

Warwick Town Council has submitted a holding objection to the plans "following comments from health and community protection".

The latter has queried what new lighting will be installed.
